Veterinary dentistry is constantly progressing. Dental care is necessary to provide optimum health and to optimize quality of life. Untreated diseases of the oral cavity are painful and can contribute to local and systemic diseases. We strive for preventive oral health care, good client communication, good oral evaluation, dental cleaning, and treatment. In addition, we have the materials and equipment necessary to perform a medically appropriate procedure.
Here at Green Oaks North Pet Hospital we want our patients' mouths to be as healthy as the rest of their body. We utilize the latest equipment and techniques to help our patients maintain healthy teeth and gums which in turn will help maintain a healthy body. Our motivation is to provide relief from pain and persistent infection. Because our pets cannot tell us when they have a toothache, it is important that they receive regular dental examinations and cleanings.
We use pneumatic, water-cooled equipment for cleaning, polishing, drilling and extracting teeth.
A radiograph (x-ray) study of the teeth and surrounding structures is an essential part of a complete oral evaluation. Our digital radiograph system can provide the high detail required for the complete evaluation that you expect and your pet deserves.
The picture on the left is an example of normal x-ray for a dog. The picture on the right is a dog who appeared to have normal teeth but upon x-ray we found multiple teeth that were diseased and required extraction.
Dental disease is the most common disease in dogs and cats. Plaque is mineralized in some pets much quicker than others. Special toys as well as feeding the newer dental diets help reduce tartar build up, as does regular dental cleanings, home care and tooth brushing.
